We were there last night. Yummy, yummy food. We tried to go since our arrival. Crabcake sandwich and potato salad for me, and Pittsburger for Bruno. Huge burger. He only had half and brought the rest home. Mimi was super nice and we said we'd be back for dessert later this week, we were stuffed! A-1 in my book!

My wife is telling me we have to for-go the really expensive restaurants. Well, there goes Flamingo. So this is apparently a popular and inexpensive restaurant. Is there a menu online anywhere? Or can one of you name a lot of the items by memory? haha

Instead of missing out on the expensive restaurants, why not still go to them, just don;t pay full price. What expensive restaurant do you enjoy? Now take that name and put it in the search box of Google then put the town name and then the word coupon and hit enter, take a look at the results and yo just may find a way to save money, works for any business and town.

Southside Grill doesn't have a website or an answering machine. It looks like a hole in the wall, and if you didn't know it's a local favorite, you would probably drive right by.

They offer good food at a reasonable price (not cheap, but reasonable) and the family is devoted to making it a success.

I believe they are closed on Monday, and possibly another evening during the week. I tried to call this morning, but no one answered, so you might give them, a call late afternoon of the day you want to ho there to eat:

Another way to save is to take advantage of Early Bird Specials which usually run from round 4:40 to 6 PM. Just check the web page of the restaurant for details.

Flamingo Grill, for instance, has Happy Hour 4-7pm. Ask about $5 Appetizer specials.

Patrish is right about Early Bird Specials, I just don't eat that early, I am 60 this year but I am not old, heck I am still on the beach during the summer at 6:00 PM :)

Matt runs a good site with MB Happy Hour but businesses change their happy hour specials so you need to verify before going.

We just had dinner at Southside Grill. A great experience. Very friendly faces. Amazing fried shrimp platter, and that cocktail sauce is KICKIN. Loved it! My wife had 2 appetizers - steamed mussels and buffalo shrimp, and she loved both. Our 5 year old had grilled cheese, and it looked like it was made with love. Our 2 year old had fried fish, and it looked great!

On this trip, we visited River City Cafe twice (awesome as always) and Burro Loco, which was great. This was the best meal we had.

Now you're starting to sound like a local! LOL!
I don't think you can go wrong with Southside Grill. Glad you enjoyed it!

Sorry Dee, their closing next Sat., and I would think they will be pretty much out of food the last couple of days, so I would not go there after you check in.

This info is from the Myrtle Beach Restaurant News website. So sorry they are closing before we can get there again, but happy for Rick and Mimi. I had my first ever Red Velvet Cheesecake at Southside a couple of years ago...oh so good!

"It was 16 years ago that Rick and Mimi McKee opened their Steelers-friendly restaurant, Southside Grill, at 355 U.S. 17 Business in Surfside Beach, and their last day of business will be Sept. 15.

The couple is moving to Tryon, N.C., a place they have visited often and love, to open a new Southside Grill there. For all the friends they’ve made in the Grand Strand area, they will be coming back regularly to visit.

“It’s hard to say goodbye,” Rick said on Sept. 6. “We’ve seen children of our customers grow up, get married and come back with their own kids.”

Now North Carolina diners will enjoy the McKee’s Crab Cakes, Burgers, Pierogies, Grilled Shrimp, Grilled Fresh Fish, Ribeye Quesadilla, Chicken a la Rick, Buffalo Chicken and from-scratch desserts."
