Post subject:  Just bought a condo in Little River

Hi, I just found this BB. We are Paul and Linda from Houston, TX and we recently bought a condo in Little River. We plan to retire there in a couple of years. We have loved living near the beach since we lived at the beach in California. We found Little River to be just the right mix of far enough off the beach to keep things fairly quiet and yet close enough for all the action we may want. We are looking forward to reading this BB to help us find the things we want to see and do in the MB area. We will be up there again this winter to check on our condo (it is being rented) and learn more about the area.

Thanks for hosting this BB

Thank you.....We are very excited. Out biggest problem right now is how do we "Speed Up" our move to MB. We are so ready to go. Linda is planning on retiring soon, but I do not see how I can for a couple of years. Perhaps a job in MB for a couple of years. We'll see.

I think our biggest challenge once we get there is making new friends. I hear there is a pretty healthy retirement community.

Let's hope so.

Welcome Home :sunny: !! I adore Little River area! Cherry Grove beach area near Little River is one of the prettiest family friendly beach areas of Myrtle in my opinion! Enjoy and keep us posted on your progress!

Congrats on the condo! My dad retired and moved to Little River about 6 yrs ago. He absolutely loves it there. Where are you moving to? My dad lived in the Rivergate community, but has since moved and bought a house in Hidden Lakes Village.

Thanks for all your warm welcomes. One of the things that we felt about Little River is that it is a bit removed from all the excitement. A little quieter.....but yet close enough to all the action. We bought in "The golf plantation at Baytree....#9. The condo really has everything we wanted and more......not far from the beach but yet a bit off the beach.....(We had been through our shave of Hurricanes and TS on the gulf coast......Ike...Rita......Gustav.....Allison) so we wanted a little distance from the beach. We have both an outdoor pool/ hot tub and indoor pool....a nice screened in porch.....2 good size bedrooms and a bonus room for our computers/home office. We would have liked a bigger kitchen and more storage but we would have to downsize for any and all we saw. We did look at a couple of single family houses but.....I do not want to ever cut grass again!!!!! The only 2 downsides are 1) we cannot move up there right away and 2) have to drive to Florence to get to Academy and have to drive to Wilmington for Trader Joes.

Hopefully the time will pass quickly enough. We are gonna make another trip up next winter and do some more exploring

sorry I am so long winded.

Paul

Congrats on the upcoming move ! Had a friend from NYC that moved to Calabash... he calls it "Queens South" due to all the NY transplants in the area, so definitely a big community. Go to the grocery store in the off-season and all you hear are Joisey and New Yawk accents.

Hey, I'm originally from Bahston... I can make fun of accents :nanner:

Can always spot the NY accent, no matter where I am. My dad was born and raised in Queens and my mom from the Bronx. My family moved up to where I live now when I was a kid and my aunt loved saying I had an "upstate accent", which of course I don't ;)

Congrats to the OP on the purchase. Can't wait until I can do that one day!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. While we are originally from New York it has been more than 20 years since we left.
I don't think we have much if any accent left. At this point yo uare more like to get a Y'all than a Youse guys. It's always good though to hook up with other Ex-Pat NYer's though and talk about the old days in NY......And I still root for the Mets and Jets.

There are just some things only another NYer can understand.

Well put Paul  !!

As for you Mr. Kirk New York is roughly 53,000 miles wide/big/large. Why people assume that the 8 million that live in the 468 miles of the City create the accent that all us New Yorkers have is beyond me :tongue3:   !

I definitely had a NY accent at one time but over the years it has faded. Especially since we moved to Texas.
What most people complained about though was not the accent......It was that I spoke too fast for them.

One time in Santa Cruz, CA my friend Jerry from Queens was in my office and we were discussing "Alternate side of the street parking" only we were pronouncing it "Altnit". My office mates walked in and said.......what the hell is "Altnit". So we explained we meant Alternate and the asked what is Alternate side of the street parking. So we explained in NYC you can only park on one side of the street on Mon, Wed and Fri. and the other Tuesday and Thrusday.......and they asked why. so we said so the city can clean the streets.....and they were amazed.....they said....NYC ckeans the streets two or three times a week. And we both laughed and said.....Hell no.......they never clean the streets.....but if they wanted too they could.
