Hi, I'm Janet

I'm from Kentucky, originally WV. I grew up hearing about Myrtle Beach from "everyone" in WV. But my family weren't beach people, so our vacations were mostly to the midwest and midsouth.

Jump to the late 90's when our kids were little. I remembered all the fun everyone else seemed to be having at Myrtle Beach and we just decided to go and check it out. So, I played in the ocean for the first time in my life along with my 3 yr old and 7 yr old. That's all it took. I was in love. LOL!

We've made a trip to Myrtle Beach most summers ever since then. The kids are now turning 17 and 21!

I've lurked on the message board for a really long time. Have found lots of helpful information along the way. Thanks, you guys!

Janet (Toes in the Sand)

If you have been lurking for awhile you know we are all addicted to Myrtle Beach. Welcome to the board. Looking forward to hearing your opinion on restaurants, etc.

Glad to have you aboard Janet. And since you're originally from West Virginia, I can certainly understand how you grew up "hearing about Myrtle Beach from everyone." Our running joke in the state is that Myrtle Beach is the Capital of West Virginia!

Please jump in and write some posts about your favorite restaurants/ places to stay/ entertainment/ or anything that you love about Myrtle Beach. We'd all love to hear some new ideas about fun places to try.

Scott

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!

Myrtle Beach is the Capital of WV. That made me laugh. I totally get it!!

Traveling with kids who can be picky eaters, we haven't been terribly adventurous with the restaurants.
Hook's Calabash has become somewhat of a tradition for us.

One place I want to try this year is Lulu's Cafe. Kids are at the age right now where they like Planet Hollywood/Hard Rock Cafe-type places.

And the *rest* of the story is that my family did eventually 'convert' and they are now beach people, too.
They have even joined us a few times for vacations at MB, which was awesome.

Hello Janet, and how can I resist saying hello to another Mountaineer. I return to WV each fall and meet up with my Charleston classmate who is also now living in KY. But being from WV you know how being from WV, well, it's in our blood. We're always West Virginians no matter where we live. Patrish says I need to spend more time on the message board, so when I say your post I said this is a great time to say hello to you. Hope we can help you have a more enjoyable stay in Myrtle Beach. :nanner: :nanner: Welcome!!!

Hi Janet!! Welcome to the board!! Can't wait to hear all about your trips past and present!! We are from Ohio, but hubby is a huge WVU fan (guess I should say Bob Huggins fan but now he follows them in both football and bball.)

Wally, I had no idea you were from WV. Very cool! I "know" you from your picture in Patrish's posts. And yes, West Virginia will always be a part of who I am. It is in our blood.

Peanut18, I'm a WVU football fan, too. I wear my WVU gear with pride here in KY, though occasionally I'll get an unappreciative stare. It was sad to hear of Bill Stewart's passing recently. At times like that, you miss being around other WV fans.
