Good Morning!! My sisters and I will be visiting MB for the first time ever in a couple of weeks. I'm just looking for some info on cool things to do.

I am <ahem> also kind of an ocean newbie. Having spent my whole life in the Great Lakes, I haven't ventured out all that much to the really big water (snickers and giggles are probably appropriate here :) ). Anyway, I read somewhere about crabbing in MB. While different types of fishing happen year round up by me, is crabbing the same thing? Is there a season to catch crab, or are they hanging around all the time? I figure that since we're going to the ocean, seafood is highly appropriate. We will be there in early March...

Thank you! Looking forward to perusing the offerings here.

Welcome, Ella! I am a Michigander that hadn't seen the ocean until my first trip to MB, too! :D It's such a big change from the Great Lakes!

I can't help much with crabbing - I know there are some topics posted here. There is a search at the top of the page that will help. And everyone is so helpful if you've got more questions.

Thank you! I've been researching this site and a few others trying to find great restaurants, etc, so I don't to rehash all that since there appear to be many helpful posts here already.

Just a couple of questions to start...

1. I've seen lots of info on where to go, any places/areas to avoid?

2. Do we need a car to get around or is a taxi better? There are 4 of us..

Now that the trip is confirmed, I'll have a few more questions I'm sure!

Thank you! Can't wait to get down there!

Hi! Welcome to the board! I would suggest a car because there is more to the area than just the center of Myrtle Beach. The entire "Grand Strand" as they call it is about 60 miles long and there is SO MUCH to do!

I agree.... get a car. I've even traveled south to Georgetown to the Hopsewee Plantation. Lots to see.

I seem to get a good price when I use carrentals.com. Cheaper than renting from the car rentals directly.

As the others mentioned, you will need a car, yes there are taxis but they cost more than NYC.
The car will pay for itself in taxi savings.

There are no places to avoid for a 1st timer, some places once you have seen it/them/whatever,
you don't need to do again on the next trip.

Hello, Ella, and thanks for joining our message board.

If you are staying on the south end of the beach there's a great place for crabbing in Garden City Beach. (See the last listing on the page linked below.) If you are staying on the north end, you can probably check with the various piers and ask about crabbing.

Heres a list of Things To Do:
