Hello all! We're first timers to Myrtle Beach this year. We will be down there 7/15 - 7/24 for my son's baseball tournament. I'm currently booked at the Hampton Inn/Suites in a one bedroom. I've been looking through vrbo.com to see if I can get something bigger for less :cheerleader: always a good thing! I'm looking at Surfside Beach properties and condos at the Myrtle Beach Resort. I was hoping some veterans would be able to point me in the best direction.

Here's our dynamics: 40ies parents and 12 and 11 year old boys who quote the line, "I'm bored," more than once each day. I don't like crowds but don't want to miss out on the many things Myrtle has to offer. Oh, and yes, the 40 somethings like a little :beerchug: !!

Any info/opinions you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Any idea where the fields will be for the tournament?
Would help narrow down which area would work best for you.

They are playing the Cal Ripkin tournament...not exactly sure if there are multiple fields or only at the Cal Ripkin Center/area.

Thanks for responding!

There are several Hampton Inns in this area. If you are booked at the Hampton at Broadway Beach, you will be close to Ripken. Broadway at the Beach is a great place for you and your kids kids although it is not ocean front.

Surfside Beach (known as the 'Family Beach') is about 15-20 minutes south of Broadway at the Beach. Myrtle Beach Resort is located near the Myrtle Beach State Park. We have friends from Roanoke, VA, who rent from owners there every year and are very happy with their oceanfront accommodations and amenities.

No matter where you stay, you will have some driving to do. Here's the Ripken list of suggested accommodations:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info...the address the coaches gave me was for 1803 South Ocean Blvd. I think it is not very far from the Myrtle Beach Resort, correct me if I'm wrong!, which I think I am leaning towards instead of Surfside. I'm just a little leary since I really have no clue to the resorts and the reviews are all so diverse!! Also, I've heard traffic can be pretty intense, so I don't want to be too far away also!

Thanks!

You are correct. That Hampton Inn is not too far from Myrtle Beach Resort. Here's a map, with the green arrow showing the Hampton Inn. Click the map and drag it to your right. You'll see Myrtle Beach State park (in green.) MB Resort is just south of the Park.

Thank you for that map. I'm feeling pretty confident going with the Myrtle Beach Resort, I just don't want to be unpleasantly surprised so I'm trying to get as much info as I can!

Thanks again for your response!

If you are going through VRBO, be sure to ask how far their condo is from the beach. I believe the two towers are oceanfront, but the other are set back. and some are set w-a-y back. Also, remember to ask questions about things that might make a difference to you: How many TV's are in the condo? Is there a land line phone? A coffee pot? Plates. etc. etc.

Thanks so much for your tips...I've pulled the trigger and booked. Now I'll be lurking around the boards to see what other things I need to know!

Again, Thanks!

You're most welcome! Please stick around! We would all LOVE a trip report when you get home, telling us the good, bad and ugly (mostly good we hope) experiences of your trip!
