I am looking at the Palmetto Dunes in Surfside for our family vacation next summer. Has anyone ever stayed there? It is a small complex so I am wondering about actual location of this condo. The book I found this condo in says it is about 2.1 miles from the Garden City Pier. While I am not looking for huge crowds, I do want to see some action going on. Thoughts?

I had to look this up on Google Earth, since the map didn't show me what I was looking for...both Surfside Pier and Garden City Pier in relation to where you'll be. It looks like it is very close to Surfside Pier, and about 2.2 miles from Garden City Pier looks about right. It's a nice area, busy, although not towel-to-towel as you sometimes find in the city of MB. I know the Garden City Pier has nightly entertainment in the summer, and there's plenty of things to do and restaurants around both piers. From that area, it's just a short ride to Murrells Inlet where all the restaurants along the Marshwalk have music and entertainment all summer long.

Something else you can try is Sky Tour:
http://www.myrtlebeachskytour.com

The information here needs some updating, but under "Select a Beach" (directly under the Sky Tour logo at top) and choose "South Strand #2" and you will be taken to the area where you'll be staying. You can pan the and zoom in to see condos, beach houses, etc.
