This was our first time staying on Shore Drive. We loved how quiet it is. There is a small complex of shops and snack bars nearby and we walked there several times. The hotel is a nice facility, can't vouch for every room as many of them are privately owned, but ours was wonderful. Clean and well appointed and got a fantastic deal through VRBO. The lobby, hallways and facilities were clean and the staff was extremely friendly. We were a little worried about Ocean Annies as we have kids ages 7 and 8, but we had no problems with the crowd, and in fact we enjoyed the live music every day. The pool deck is nice, a large outdoor pool, the lazy river is not so lazy, LOL, but it was fine. It actually sits back behind the bar, but again, many families there and no issues with the bar crowd. The indoor pool facility is nice, clean, it did get a little hot in there, but it was extremely hot outside the week we were there. They have an indoor pool and 2 hot tubs. At night, they have the indoor complex lit up with color changing lights which was a fun atmosphere. The beachfront is wide and there are no dunes or grass between the deck and the beach. We liked that.
Over all, please don't buy into all of the horrible reviews of this hotel, we found none of them to be true. I would recommend for anyone, including families with small children, there were many families there. Lots of large groups and we found the guests to be friendly and didn't have any issues with the bar patrons either. Sandals, the indoor bar/lounge gets very busy at night, it is located right inside the hotel lobby which is a little odd. I think this allows them to keep an eye on those coming and going. There was a door man there every night and they kept the crowd under control. We weren't bothered even when coming in later at night.
We loved this place and will very likely return next year.

Thanks so much for taking time to review your accommodations. I always look forward to reading these reviews since we never stay in Myrtle Beach. I am forever trying to talk Wally into booking a high-rise for even one night, but so far that has not panned out.

We stayed here again, for the third year in a row. We did rent a different condo, this one was on VRBO as well, but it was managed by Ocean Breeze Realty. The Hotel is just as nice as in past years. We love it here. Ocean Annies is on site and we love having the live music every day. It makes for great people watching as well!! :bootyshake: :pirat: LOL. I also love that the beach comes right up under the pool deck. No grass, no dunes, nothing impeding your view.Makes it easier with the kids too. We also love that River City Cafe is poolside with a great view of the ocean. We ate there 3 times this trip. Shore Drive is also so quiet and we love that Kroger is right down the road. No trips to Walmart for us :cheerleader: The swath/inlet, whatever you call it (my kids call it the creek) is right down the beach and it makes for great net fishing and crabbing, and you can find all kinds of critters in that thing. They saw a stingray this year, last year someone pulled out a horseshoe crab. Kids LOVE going down there. I have to add that the staff at the Sands Ocean Club is amazing. Their bellhops are polite and helpful, even helped us get our groceries out, loaded and up to the room in a nasty thunderstorm. Being the genius that I am, I locked us out of the room one night, at 11pm and we freaked out. Kids were straight out of the pool. I went to the front desk in a panic, fearing they would tell me it was a private rental and there was nothing they could do. Of course, my ID, phone, everything was in the room. Nope, they called security, they escorted us up to the room, opened the room and made me show my ID once inside. Total life savers!! Then, it might seem like a little thing, but it was a HUGE deal to me, we had to take our trash out to the dumpster that is on the north end of the building. Of course, I wait until it's dark on Friday night to decide to do that. (Yes, husband was going to do it but he was at the pool with the kids and I'm stubborn and wanted to get it done). As I am walking downstairs, carrying my 4 bags of trash, I hear the noise from the bar, and realize this might not be the brightest idea I've ever had. I get to the front of the hotel and the belhop manager asks me what in the world I am doing. Tell him I am looking for the dumpster and he points the way. He must have recognized the terror that hit my face when I realized where it was, in the darkest corner of the building (you know, I watch too many crime stories). So he says "don't worry, I got you girl" (girl, HA! cute, I'm 41 but who cares right? ) and grabs 2 of the bags and walks with me to the dumpster. It was a small gesture, but one he didn't have to do and I was eternally grateful. My husband went down later and gave him a nice tip for helping me out.
This year our room was on the third floor, over looking the bar. Music didn't bother us and they stopped promptly at 11pm every night. The room itself, well, it was ok, it served our needs. The only issue we had was with the realty company. We have always just gone to the hotel and checked in at their HOA office, no issues. This year, a week before we left to come down, we get an email saying that we can not do this, that the hotel has changed their policy and we have to come to the realty office to check in and get the key. :BandHead: :BandHead: Their office is in Little River, which, in the grand scheme of things, isn't really that far away, except when you have been in a car for 7 hours and all you want to do is get to the hotel and get unloaded. To be that close and then have to drive 20 minutes out of your way and then 20 minutes back was just a huge pain in the rump. And the lady at the office was, well, interesting. She said we had to leave a credit card on file if we wanted more than one key. So I give her one and she writes the number down on a post it note. I said maybe you should put that in a file or something, it makes me a little nervous having it sit on your desk right inside the main door. Her reply was oh it will be fine :ohnoes: So I grab the post it and put it in the file myself. As I'm leaving she tells me that I will have to go to the HOA office at Sands to get the parking key.....Ummmmm, what? Ok, whatever.... Get to the hotel and the HOA lady is sweet as pie, I tell her my story, she says Ocean Breezes is full of it, they choose to have their renters go to their office, it's their policy, not the Sands.... she felt so bad for me she didn't even charge me for the parking key. Finally get to the room and we had to call the rental office because there was a huge crack in the bathtub, the toilet handle was extremely loose, the sliding glass door was nearly impossible to open and close and the air conditioner was pulling away from the wall. WAnted to let them know that it was in this shape when we walked in. You guessed it, she could have cared less. Decided to make the best of it, none of these things really impacted our beach enjoyment. The room had recently been remodeled, just looks like they ran out of money before they could do the bathroom. If anyone wants the VRBO #, feel free to message me. I don't think they fairly represented the bathroom at least. The other pictures were accurate. The air conditioner had a very hard time keeping up and the room stayed warmer than we would have liked, but lucky for us, it was a much cooler week at the beach than we have had in the past. Long story even longer, we love the Sands Ocean club, but for the money, we definitely would not book this room again. And I won't be dealing with Ocean Breeze Realty any time soon either. We loved the room we stayed in the past 2 years, but the owners sold it and it wasn't available this year

That says a lot about Sands Ocean Club, and I’m glad to hear it!

I used to have to travel to various large cities for my job and I stayed at reputable hotels - usually Marriott . I can assure you that you are not the only one who has locked themselves out. One late afternoon I checked in, got my pass card and hauled my luggage up the elevator. Upon entering the room, I found two people in bed. It freaked me out. Turned out the office gave me the wrong passcard. Another time I locked myself out when I went to get ice. I was in my pajamas and bare feet. It was so embarrassing to show up at the registration desk looking like that!

>…Her reply was oh it will be fine . Sometimes stuff like that leaves you scratching your head. Glad Sands made it right for you.

I don’t blame you a bit!

Thanks so much for taking time to write this wonderful trip review. I enjoyed every word. You made me smile and frown!

I enjoyed your trip report. I love folks like you! You had a few ups and downs and the condo wasn't what you had expected but you didn't let it ruin your holiday. Good for you! The resort was great when you needed something and doesn't always happpen with a smile when you don't rent through them. Thanks for sharing.
