We have stayed at Dayton House 5 times and love it. This year we are planning our vacation for September instead of June and I noticed the rates for September were just as much as we paid in June last year. I did some investigating and found that all the resorts around Dayton House were $25 to $40 less per night during the dates in September that we are looking at. I called Dayton House and was told that they raised their rates for 2012. I told him what I had found on line at Breakers, Boardwalk and The Palms and he just said the rates he quoted were the best rates available. It is sad that I have been staying with them since 2006 and that was the response I got. I always thought the Palms looked nice and I guess we will find out for sure in September.

The lady that we are renting from through VRBO also raised her rates this year. However, since we were repeating customers our base rate stayed the same. Whew...thank goodness. I am not surprised in the rate increases. Myrtle Beach seems to be booming.

But just looking at the resorts within walking distance to Dayton House, they didn't raise their rates. Or at least not to the extent that Dayton House. We're talking up to $150 less for a 5 night stay. We always stayed at Dayton House because they were so budget friendly and for the service. I got neither when I called to talk to them.

Amen.... my boss said everyone was getting a 2% raise this year.... :nanner:

10 minutes later we got an email stating health insurance paycheck deductions are rising 25%.

Good luck with the Palms, hopefully it's a great discovery for you and the family !

We played the insurance taking the pay raise game for about 5 years straight. Now the insurance has kind of stayed the same, but we get no raises. Wouldn't be bad if the electric bill, property taxes, food, and gasoline wasn't going up.

Dayton house was the first place we stayed when we began coming to myrtle beach. They were running a special, and somehow it expired the day we called. We'd stayed there for quite a few years, and they pulled that on us. We've never been back since.

Last year our insurance dropped to $0 for a full family plan for a non-smoking family. We have a gret corporate plan. I wonder if it has anything to do with the size of a company. We are 10,000+ WorldWide.

Parker that does help and sometimes you trade insurance money for other benefits. I can retire in 7 more years because i have 30 years of service and I will be 55 years old.

$150 difference, that does seem high, especially since DH has been a past economically friendly option. Are they under different ownership/mgt? Recent renos? Curious.

as for playing the insurance/pay raise game. With an employee pool of about 40,000, I still pay slightly over $300/mo for employee subsidized insurance for family and they recently switched to a 90/10 split with a deductible. Shockwaves were heard around the world!

Inflation hovers around 3%-ish; however, staggering increasing in some grocery items were at 25%. People are fussing right now about gasoline $, but at least in Ohio, they are what they were last spring if you take a look at historical data on gasbuddy.com

http://gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx

How soon we forget...I'm glad to have a job, a car that needs gas and money to at least fill it half full!

:)
