MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - An anchor store will finally fill the void from the old K-Mart on North Kings Highway, which closed down September 2014.

Store manager Joel Stout says Carolina Pottery is expected to open on June 11. Neighbors and other businesses are excited that the new store could be a good boost for the area.

Inside, the transformation is underway. The aisles of toiletries and sporting goods are long gone, replaced with rows upon rows of home décor. Carolina Pottery answers all your indoor and outdoor decorating needs, along with craft supplies. Stout says the main thing left to do before opening the store is merchandising all the product.

The furnishing store has several locations around the Carolinas, along with one in northern Georgia. Neighboring business owners say they're excited that this new store will also attract improvements to this entire shopping district.

“We are hopeful that the locals will come shop at our store and we had a very good reception from them so far, and not even being open,” says Stout. “We've had a lot of interest in the store from locals, businesses and local residents.”

The store is catering to locals or anyone with vacation homes in Myrtle Beach. But they're also working to attract the tourists. There will be knick knacks and souvenirs that tourists can get to remember their Myrtle Beach vacation.

Since announcing that Carolina Pottery is planting roots in Myrtle Beach, Stout says there has already been one other business that has also decided to take over a storefront nearby. And they're hoping that once they open, that positive trend continues. Other business owners in the complex say that having an anchor store like Carolina Pottery will hopefully attract more locals to their stores, which could mean more steady income and job opportunities for them, too.

“We're hopeful that bringing our store in will bring other businesses to this shopping center alone and to this area around here. Because we've seen a lot of excitement from businesses that are already here to get us going and get us started,” says Stout.
