Construction is back on for a high-rise lodging tower along Ocean Boulevard that was delayed last year.

The 14-story Homewood Suites Oceanfront Resort & Conference Center will be built beside the Hampton Inn & Suites Oceanfront at 1805 S. Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach. The new $25 million hotel aims to open in spring 2016. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 6, said Buddy Lindsay of Sonship Hospitality, which is developing the new hotel and developed the Hampton Inn.

Construction of Homewood Suites had initially planned to start in fall 2013, but was delayed for unspecified reasons.

The Homewood, which will share pools and other amenities with the Hampton Inn, will have 100 suites, a mix of two-bedroom, one-bedroom and studios, all with kitchens and private balconies. Homewood also will have a 300-seat conference center, three pools, a firepit, fitness center, a pilates-aerobics room for women only and a bistro serving sandwiches and snacks.

The hotel is one of several new lodging towers under construction or in the works along the beach’s main drag after little action for about five years as the market tried to correct from the overbuilding of lodging units during the height of the real estate boom.

The 24-story Hilton Grand Vacations Club timeshare tower near 22nd Avenue North is under construction and expected to open in May. And another tower that plans to have an elevated pedestrian walkway over Ocean Boulevard at 17th Avenue North is working its way through the city’s approval process. Virginia-based Buchanan Motels LLC has proposed the 23-floor, 252-unit oceanfront hotel, with an indoor water park and parking garage across the street.

They just opened a Homewood suites around the Pittsburgh area. I heard that they are very nice and are done up right. This hotel almost sounds like they are catering to the business/convention visitor.
