A few weeks ago, my wife and I were driving down 8th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach when we saw the building pictured below. I was glad to see this, as I always liked Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips years ago - and knew that some stores survived now, many of them being co-branded with Nathan’s Famous under a trademark right purchase.

Here is a story that local food and restaurant writer/author/reporter/editor/reviewer/critic/etc Becky Billingsley wrote about the upcoming multi-brand business, and several photos I took of the building as workers prepared it toward its opening:

ARTHUR TREACHER’S FISH & CHIPS OPENING ACROSS FROM FORMER MYRTLE BEACH PAVILION SITE

By Becky Billingsley

Monday, June 9, 2014, Myrtle Beach – A restaurant building that has been empty for some time at Seaside Plaza, which is off 8th Avenue North across from the former Myrtle Beach Pavilion site, is being remodeled to contain several types of fast food.

The building has been painted mustard yellow and has signs up for Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips, Scoops Ice Cream and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. It’s near Midtown Motel and Bodo’s German Restaurant & Pub.

Arthur Treacher’s is a chain with 16 locations in five states, according to the corporate website. Competitors are Captain D’s and Long John Silver’s.

Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs got its start in Coney Island, Brooklyn, in 1916. The restaurant chain has 268 units, according to its website, and the hot dogs are sold in “over 30,000 retail locations and over 10,000 food service outlets.”

Scoops Ice Cream has another Myrtle Beach location at 1401 S. Kings Highway.

An Arthur Treacher’s used to be located in Myrtle Square Mall before it was demolished in 2006.

There are a few locations left in Ohio, and it is my mom's FAVORITE fish. I'll be sure to let her know, she loves MB!

I hope that will be a profitable addition to the restaurant. I haven't been to an Arthur Treacher's since we moved here, but will sure give it a try!
