coming down august 1st... since im coming from NW of Albany I always come down 88 to 81... usually i take 81 all the way to route 64 and then to Richmond and then 95 south.. Googlemaps is now giving me an alternative, which is to take 81 to 66, then 66 to 29 and then taking 29 all the way to greensboro and then taking 74 all the way down to route 9 and then into myrtle.... has anyone ever done this route? does it add on a bunch of time or miles? another alternative i heard of others taking was 81 all the way to roanoke, then 220 south thru rockingham and then 74-701..... has anyone done this at all? i want to avoid as much traffic at all cost..thank you....

Awww, Johnstown, NY!! Spent a lot of time there training with Sensei Mike Campos and the Zen-Do Kai!!! Going to MB via 64 is the best route, if you don't mind adding an hour to the trip! Less traffic, and bypasses Richmond. We normally take 81 to 66, and then cut off on to 17. 17 will take you to 95, and we follow 95 until Lumberton, where we take 74 to 410 to 701 to 9 to 17!! This is our normal route, but once in a while, we'll take 40 down to Wilmington and then drive 17 right down to the Grand Strand! I think driving to Roanoke will add a lot of time to your trip!
