Hi all!! Looking for the best way to get to NMB from Pittsburgh. We are about 25 miles north of the city and want to avoid the beltway and 95.

Slippery Rock!! Im from Beaver... I know Slippery Rock well, we have a camp in Harrisville!!! Thanks for the info. We went to Cherry Grove last summer and our trip tik took us on the beltway where we got a ticket for driving in the ez pass lanes without an ez pass...... lol Long story!! Ill have to show my hubby this and see what he thinks!! Thanks again!!

P.S. I Love Coney Island..Best Hot Garlic Parm wings i've ever had!

Harrisville??? I used to live in Harrisville. Went to school in Slippery Rock!!!!!!!

Anyway, if you want to avoid I-95 like you said, then look at this:

I-79 south to Sutton, WV where you'll take Route 19 toward Summerville.

Route 19 joins up with I-77 in Beckley, WV and you'll follow I-77 south to North Carolina.

In North Carolina, take I-74 East and that will merge with Route 52. Follow 52 south to Winston-Salem and exit to I-40.

You're on I-40 for a mile or two before exiting to Route 311. 311 will merge with Route 220/I-73/I-74 south.

Follow that south into Rockingham, NC. In this town, you'll exit on to Route 74 East. Look for the exit for Route 38 toward Bennettsville.

Follow 38 until it merges with 501. From there, you're on your own depending on where along the Strand you're staying. It's about a 10 1/2 drive with this route from Shittsburgh. Probably an extra half hour or so since you're from up north.

I didn't graduate from slippery rock. I left when I was 13. Regardless, I graduated in 1998.

I agree with Phroggy's route. I live in Ford City Pa area, we are East of Pittsburgh we always take I 79 S and that works well just like Phroggys' directions.

Ditto to I 79 route.
On I 40 the right lane ends and exits onto RT 311. Can't miss it.
RT 9 runs you into Cherry Grove.
For Ocean Drive, Crescent, Windy Hill. Hit RT 31 and run down to next exit. Robert Edge Parkway. Saves a few minutes unless you want to get beach vibe on RT 17 through NMB.

Thank you all so much. These routes sound much better than the way we went last time....

Late to the party here... I followed phroggy's route except that I think the first year 311 wasn't there and the 2nd year it was new and I missed it with my 4 year old GPS.

Just popping in here since Harrisville was mentioned. Will probably be picking up some Subway for the girls and sliding over to Sheetz for sandwiches in Harrisville on Saturday. Run on 58 eastward across 308 to Eau Claire on Rt. 38 and you'll dang near run into my house. Sheetz in Harrisville is usually the cheapest gas around these parts.

There are a LOT of folks from north of Pittsburgh rural area on this board. Butler, Slippery Rock, Grove City, Rural Valley, Kittanning, Ford City....

Just want to mention that it seems like the state police in Virginia have been out in force lately. On 77 before you get to Wytheville and once it splits from 81 on the other side of Fort Chiswell. The last few times we've been through the area they have been out.

They are usually really bad on 19 also. They are usually all over the place. We know to watch on 19 , and we will have to watch on 77 also. Thanks for the heads up!! By the way......I grew up in Oakdale and my husbands first police job was in McDonald with Chief Dorsey! Small world.....
