Hey all! We always take 95 all the way to North Myrtle Beach but always wonder if doing the 495 outerloop way is a little shorter. We never have traffic the way we go since we drive all night but we were just curious if anyone has done both and what you thought.

We come from New York and we stay on I95 except around Richmond when we take 295. We leave around 3:00 am so we usually don't hit too much traffic on I95 either. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

After driving from Albany NY area to Myrtle Beach many many times the only time
that we would use the Outer Loop was if we traveled at peak daytime hours as
all is does is move you out away from the heavy heavy traffic....Not shorter at
all in mileage .......Hope that help you.... :sunny:

Hello all. My wife and i just finished our trip a few weeks ago. We left NY around 8 PM because I could not sleep. I hate taking the chance of getting stuck in DC. Bad past experience. We took the Balt-Wash Pkwy and then went 395 for some reason. It worked out great. No one else on the road. We then left NMB around 330 on a Friday morning. Same thing coming back. Only problem was the NJ turnpike and an unfortunate 85 yr old that crashed his car into the toll plaza on the GSP. All in all it took 14.5 hrs going down (2 hr nap and Va accident) and 13.5 coming home with 2 dogs that needed walking and usual stops for food.
