Had planned on leaving 9-30-18 for North Myrtle Beach coming from WV.....Been watching weather channel but could use some first hand information on getting there via 77 to 220 to Rockingham and then 74 E to Chadbourn to Tabor City and in on Rt 9. Also will gas be available and restaurants open. Thanks everyone.

As of right now sections of 74 and 9 are closed. By 9/30 I would think they will be open.

Here’s a pretty good tool.

Agree with Metric. As of this AM, road still closed on 9 from Longs, but should be open before you get here. Can't say for NMB, but we drove home from Savannah two days ago (Monday) and experienced no traffic problems except a slow-down in Conway for high water we needed to drive through slowly.

Most all the local stores and restaurants are open in MB including Wal-Mart Costco and Sams.

If you don't already have the free app Waze on your phone, download it. It will tell you about traffic ahead and route you around any major problems. We used it from SC to FL back to SC again.

Thanks everyone for the input on conditions getting into MB. Stay safe and hope you don't have to much aftermath cleanup.

We went to Johnny Rockets at Barefoot Landing for National cheeseburger day last night. We arrived a little after 5 and they told us we were the first customers of the day. While there no one else came in.

Almost all stores and restaurants were open yesterday. We even got our 1/2 off every Wed. only hamburgers at King Street Grill. (Love this deal!)

Here are a couple links that should be helpful to anyone with weather questions:

NOAA weather says Waccamaw River is due to crest at Conway Tuesday. Keep an eye on water levels as it seems everything is changing almost hourly.

The hope is 501 will remain open in Conway.

Consider Hwy. 70 in N.C. to Jacksonville, then down 17 to North Myrtle Beach.

My daughter and many of my neighbors that evacuated returned home using the Waze app. All said using this app they were able to make it back with little or no problem, avoiding the flooded areas. One did run into a closed road but it had closed just before they got there and had yet to reported to Waze.

Here is a link to all closed roads as of 6 AM this morning:

http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/39097710/ ... pacts-area

From what I have read most rivers will crest by Wednesday so things may ease up a bit prior to your arrival.

Hope you have a safe ride down and a great vacation.

Good call on using Waze in such situations...perfect use of "crowd sourcing" - thanks :nanner:
