We usually leave Friday morning and stay somewhere in NC for friday night. Then drive the rest of the way to MB in the morning on Saturday. I95 is so congested on Fridays. Has anyone traveled from New England on Thursday? Is it any better?

It will be less traffic coming into Myrtle on Friday, traffic
around DC is the same most days.

I need to get up tot the Cape next summer, have not been in 4 years.

Enjoy the beach

It all depends on what time of day it is when you leave. leaving Connecticut before 6:30 am gets me past new york before the rush hour and thru Washington before lunch time. then just pray for no delay as you exit DC.

We travel from NY and found Sunday to be the greatest day to travel. We leave around 4 am on a Sunday and it's usually smooth sailing. We tried Fri. and that was a nightmare. We then went to Sat. which was a bit better but not by much. Any weekday has commuter traffic and that's the problem from NY all the way to Richmond during the week.

I tried leaving Upstate New York at 6PM and boy not a lick of traffic
on I95 at all. Then we went North back to New York left at 6pm
same thing as even the truckers are pulled in and sleeping.
enjoyed the no traffic and kept going, we used to stop in
Emporia, Va on way down and Perryville MD on way home
but now we live here and only head up when necessary lol..... :wav:

Personally I leave Southern NY (Ithaca Area) around 8PM -10PM and drive all night and get into Myrtle Beach in about 12 hours of no congestion. Night driving isn't for everyone, but it sure is less stress for me.

when our kids were little we traveled at night when it was their bedtime. And when they woke up it was breakfast time and we were in MB. Now DH prefers traveling in the morning..night traveling is getting harder as we get older.
We are thinking of leaving 5:30am so when don't hit NYC traffic. I would even take a "cow path" if it meant no stopping til we get there. Traffic in Maryland is bad too.
I guess it's all worth the trip.

We've found leaving Cape Cod early Saturday morning, traveling about 500 miles, then travel on Sunday to arrive at MB to be the best to avoid heavy heavy traffic.

We also go over the Tappen Zee bridge to Rte. 78 out to 81, then pick up rte. 66 to 95 in Fredericksburg which on a Sunday morning isn't terrible. We might try Rte. 64 to 288 to 95 in Richmond this year as we might take two nights on the road (about 400 miles for 2 days, then 200 the last day). We travel with two cats and it's easier on them to travel less each day.

So the bottom line is, we like traveling on the week ends, at least during the northern part of the trip (MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, etc.) :sunny:
