We're travelling to Myrtle Beach for the first time next week and are wondering what the best route to take is.

Also we're planning on splitting the trip in to two days - where is the best place to stop ?

Thanks

We go the following route:

QEW to Buffalo
I90 - I79 -US19 - I77 - I74 - I40 - US 220 / 52 - US1 - US74 - SC38 - US501.

It's the same route as CAA will give you except we take US19 between I79 and I77.

I would recommend stopping at either (depending how far you want to go on day 1) Summersville, WV., Beckley WV., Wytheville, VA.

From Toronto, I would drive down to Buffalo, then to Erie (HWY 90) and head straight down HWY 79 (if you leave early enough, shouldn't be a problem through Pittsburgh) , until you hit HWY 77 (HWY 19 is a good shortcut).
Then 74 to Winston Salem. You're just about within walking distance then! :nanner:
I think that's what the poster above recommends also. Total distance is about 1500km.

Take a look at this itinerary from Bing...

(I don't understand the bit about not driving in WV?? It's only for ~2hrs)

Just picked up a new triptik and CAA is again using Hwy 19 only with the warning of strict speed enforcement. They also show the route taking 74-1-52 to Florence and 76 to the 501 rather than 74-38 to the 501 which seems a more direct route? Would appreciate any comments.

Noticed this one suggests 74 to 701 to 9 to 31 to 22 (near our destination). What are your thoughts?

We have been going in that way for the last 5 years or so, and we love it. Much more relaxing drive, then dealing with 501 traffic.

We are back from a great trip to Myrtle Beach. We took the route recommended by Bing and it was excellent, as the previous poster said you avoid the 501 traffic. There is not a lot of services so be sure to fill up at 220 exit.

Sorry about bringing an old thread back to life.

I'm looking at the link above for a map from Toronto to MB. There is a way to download the route and install it into a Garmin GPS. Just wondering, has anybody ever done this? Is there a special link to bring this route up or do you just put in your destination as normal and it will follow this routing? Just asking if anybodies done this?

Thanks

At the bottom left... scroll all the way down, underneath all the routing information.

You can send the Bing itinerary to an e-mail address or to your GPS via USB.

Thanks for replying Dede.

What I was asking is once it's in your garmin, do you have to do anything to bring the routing up? Do I just enter that I want to go to Compass Cove (where I stay) or do I have to look or tap on anything special to bring up this predefined routing?

Just trying to get a clear idea of how this map will work before I load it as it will be Sept. before I can use it.

Thanks.
