I was thinking of taking 77S to Route 9 and following that all the way in to NMB. Has anybody gone this route, any suggestions on this route.

thanks

I have never traveled that route, although it would be very scenic, i think it would take a long time.

Two popular routes.

Shorter miles:
I 77 to NC and I 74.
I 74 to I 40.
I 40 east to I 73 south.
Ends at Rockingham. Couple of choices from there to NMB.

Longer miles:
Stay on I 77 all the way to Columbia SC and I 20.
I 20 over to Florence.
Couple choices to NMB from there.

Could be wrong. If I am I apologize. Sounds like it might be your first trip.
For first trip I would go with the longer miles. Fewer route changes. Less confusion. If driving straight through, less wear on the driver. Cruise control entire way. Higher average MPH makes drive times same as shorter route.

Decide which one you plan on using and we can help with details into NMB.

Yes it is our first time to North Myrtle Beach. We will be taking 4 cars, my parents are close to 70 and will be driving also so I would want the easiest route for them to follow. That is why I was thinking 77S to Route 9 but it sounds like Route 9 might be a very long way to go??

Alan is right, if you are going that far on 77S, you may as well stay on a bit longer, fly past route 9 and hit 20 across. Granted you back track a little upwards to go to NMB, but it is 95% highway.

Now, I've gone many ways from Ohio. You can check out this post of mine about midway down the page:

I like the 77 - 74 @ Mt. Airy Route and as you can see by the post that I linked above that you can go toward Greensboro ( which I don't like) or go through Winston-Salem to Lexington and head down 64 to 73/74/220S.

The roads I listed aren't little county roads, where you could get lost easily. I found the drive to be easy. The traffic, to me around Winston-Salem was less intense than Greensboro.

Another issue is what time of the year are you driving down? We went in fall and found less traffic in certain portions of our trip. There are always race issues around Charlotte and other towns in NC/SC on weekends. Are you driving straight through?

We are leaving about 3 in the morning and driving straight thru we usually go to the outer banks every year, this will be our first trip to North Myrtle.

We drive from Canfield which is about 45 minutes from the Hall of Fame. Here is my route using going I-77S to 20E:

77S to Columbia, SC. In Columbia, take 20E to route 95N. (from Hall of Fame to Columbia, SC is around 535 miles).
95N to exit 170.
AT exit 170, go right on SC 327.
Take 327 to 76 to 576 to 501. (I am almost certain 76 turns into 576 at some point)
From 501 go left onto route 22 (do not take 501 all the way into Myrtle Beach - too congested!)
You'll probably take this to route 17 or 31. Route 17 has two parts, the closest being the 17 bypass and the other part of 17 is closer to the ocean.

Hope this helps! Total miles from your front door to Myrtle Beach should be around 700 to 730 miles.
