Hello everyone, my name is Tim. I'm a new member here and I've been reading this board for quite some time now...

I've read routes from ohio to myrtle and they all seem faster than the route I have been traveling for years (which is the one on mapquest)

but everyone likes when they can shave some time off..

anywho...
July 10th my family and I are staying the week down in Myrtle, however on the 9th we are driving out around 4 am, to drive to Mt. Airy for a halfway point,

my question here is what would the best/fastest route from Mt. Airy to Northern Myrtle Beach (Shore Drive area) be?

Thanks for any help/advice!!

From years of experience, I can honestly say that using 501 is the fastest way without question. So from Mount Airy, do this:

Head south on Route 52 toward Winston-Salem

Take exit 107A for I-40/Route 311

Merge onto 311

311 will run south and merge with I-74 east/Route 220 south

Continue toward Rockingham (south)

In Rockingham, the road name will change to Route 1. About a mile later, exit to the right onto Route 74 East

Take exit 319 for SC-38 toward Bennettsville

Follow 38 to Route 501

Take 501 to Route 22 and head east on 22

22 will run you right to King's Highway (Business 17) across from the Tanger Outlets.

Take Business 17 south to Lake Arrowhead Rd.

Turn left on Lake Arrowhead Rd and it'll take you to Shore Dr

The above mentioned route is usually our choice. It can get a little backed up if you hit coming into MB after around 11am or noon. If you arrive early enough, it will be smooth sailing all the way in on 501. Take the 22 Bypass no matter what, it will save you time.
