Hi! We haven't been to Myrtle in a few years. We are coming from Logan, Ohio to North Myrtle. Anyone have any good directions? It looks like mapquest takes us the normal way to 77S to 52 to 220 to Asheboro then we seem to go on little 15-40mi jogs on different roads after that(ie. Highway 9 to Edward B Cottingham Blvd to Broad St, etc). We like to take the shortest, easiest route.

Thanks for the info!!

Tammie

Your directions are on target to Winston Salem.
New wrinkle this year.
As summer goes on and more people use it we'll have more info.

Stay on Rt 52 / I 74. Past I 40 exits. Another mile or so should be exit for RT 311. Runs diagonal over to Rt 220/ I 74 below Ashboro. By passes Greensboro cutting off several miles.

RT 220 / I 74 runs you into Rockingham. Merge with RT 1 for maybe a mile to RT 74.

East on RT 74 to Chadbourne. Rts 410 and 701 to RT 9.

RT 9 runs into Cherry Grove.
(Cottingham and Broad St doesn't ring a bell).
There is a Robert Edge and a Main Street.

Before Cherry Grove in Little River. RT 31 south for a couple miles. Robert Edge is access Road over to RT17.
Straight through light at 17 is Main Street in Ocean Drive section of NMB.

I agree with POP2748 regarding it being the likely quickest and easiest way to NMB. I little quicker in my opinion would be jumping off 74 outside of Laurenburg (before Chadbourne) and taking 501 to 130 to 904 to Tabor City and jumping on 701 to get to 9. Its a fairly straight shot, but be sure to consult a map on this first, as there are a few turns along the way. This is the fastest I've found, just not necessarily the easiest.

Are these directions still the best? I know how things can change from year to year! We will be coming from Xenia, OH (Dayton area) going to Cherry Grove next weekend.

Thanks!

Should be cleaned up by next week but you never know. I 77 near Bluefield. Major rock slide this week. Not sure how the detours are working or which direction is being made to do what. The first day I heard traffic was being routed off the interstate and over to RT 460 for a few miles. If I see an update I'll get back to ya.

If you search for interstate 77 rockslide, you can see the progress of the cleanup. I've been watching it and its all northbound and there is a detour. Hoping by the 6th when we are NB on 77 it will be clear.

Here's the latest:

Quote:

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Transportation says the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 near the West Virginia-Virginia border might not reopen until Wednesday.

The department said Monday that wet and wintry weather is hampering efforts to clean up a rock slide and stabilize the hillside.

The department says it's not safe for crews to work at night. The work is being done only during daylight hours.

The slide occurred March 20 at mile marker 3 in the Bluefield area.

To prevent more slides, crews are pushing any loose hanging rock down the hillside with heavy equipment. Rock and debris are being hauled to a dump site along the interstate.

Traffic is being rerouted onto U.S. 460 in Princeton, where the highway reconnects with the interstate.

Yep, when we drove past it on wenesday the 27th it was still closed... I think it reopened later in the day.. Oh.. and slow it down in Virginia, troopers like to pull over 2 cars at a time.. The guy behind me was on my :bootyshake: , so i moved over to let him by... I was doing 81 in a 70 and it was my 40th birthday, so i thought he might let me go with a warning    .. Instead, 30 min later he comes back to the car and says, " sir, you know in virginia anything over 80 is reckless operation  , but i will drop it to 80 and cut you a break  ... Thanks buddy.....
