We were hoping to stay in NMB in Sept. but I did see the schedule, which says they should be in that area when we're there. Does anyone know what "section" in NMB they'll be doing first?

Call your resort and see if they have information on this.

Does anyone know when and where they’re going to start this project. I read that they are also going to do this at Pawley’s Island as well.

Here's the best info I have been able to find about the planned beach replenishment.

https://www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/things ... urishment/

Here's the map.

Maybe others have more or better info.

Here is the official information with a tracking map. The hotels are not very forthcoming because they are not sure of the date, or don't want to handle cancellations.

The 2018 beach renourishment project will begin in August. The nourishment will include approximately eight miles on Myrtle Beach, four miles on Surfside and Garden City Beaches and two miles on North Myrtle Beach. Details on the starting location and direction the project will move in have not yet been finalized. The project will be completed no later than December 15th.

During the renourishment project construction operations must proceed around the clock and will, on average, move along the shoreline at a rate of about 200 to 300 feet per day. Only approximately 1,000 feet of beach access will be restricted per day, leaving most area beaches available for use.

Track the progress here:

We were in Surfside in 2017 for the North end renourishment...we were not inconvenienced at all...we thought it was really interesting to see all the activity...and it really only affects a small part of the beach...we were second row but could still see activity from our third floor condo...they had sand built up and over the pipes so that people could, easily, get to the closer ocean spots to set up your beach gear for the day...was not a problem for us

We will be on the southern end of Surfside this year...so I imagine we will be able to see the renourishment going on again...love that the beach is getting rebuilt...

Looks like they’re starting the beach replenishment first in Garden City. Then in the City of Myrtle Beach after that.

Not sure why, but beach replenishment seams to give my husband a sense of peace. Maybe something else to focus on other than aches & pains?

Yes it will be fun to watch for awhile. We just hope we don’t hear the beeping from those trucks all day long. Other than that it should be interesting.

If it makes you feel better...last year...Terry and I don't recall even hearing any beeping...so it must not have been too bad...we stayed directly across from where they were working...when we were on the beach... near the pipelines we could here some humming through the pipes but it was not loud...last year we were at the north end of Surfside...this year at the south end...so...I guess we will get to watch them again

If you love shelling, the best place to find shells, shark teeth and sea glass is where the re-nourishment is in progress. It churns up all sorts of treasures.

If you’re interested in watching the replenishment project in action, you can watch it live today and maybe tomorrow on the earth cam at the Sea Crest

Here's a photo I took last week from the Garden City Pier. They were pretty far out to sea, so it's not a great photo.
