I don't know about you, but I've always wondered how much these small motels net per year and how they manage to stay in business. I guess some of them try to save money by not paying taxes. Bad idea!

July 6th, 2017 Sea Nymph Motel Owner Arrested for Tax EvasionThursday

Esta Lewis Hucks, owner of the Sea Nymph Motel in Horry County, was arrested today by South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) investigators. Hucks is charged with seven counts of failure to file sales and accommodations tax returns and one count of operating a business without a retail license. In 2009, Hucks pled guilty and was convicted of two counts of failing to file sales tax returns for this same motel.

The motel's gross sales from August 2010 through tax year 2016 totaled $181,192. Hucks did not file state sales and accommodations tax returns for that time period. She admitted to knowingly collecting sales and accommodations taxes and failing to file the tax returns.

Hmmm.... seems pretty low for 6+ yrs ($30k/yr). Something tells me they were under-reporting sales also !

It's crazy that people actually stay there. I Google mapped it and saw a few places right around it that should be demolished.

Agree with you both.

We have neighborhood safety-crime meetings once a month. (They are held for various neighborhoods throughout Myrtle Beach.) One of the worst and most notorious motels for crime and other illegal activities was mentioned just about every month...The Sand Bucket. I thought it had been torn down when the city demolished several old motels like it, but I just googled it and it looks like it is still standing.

Agree....a lot of these old motels are hives for various illegal operations that includes shady management.

That's interesting about the Sand Bucket. I just looked it up and people seem to love it according to the reviews. I expected a total dump when I pulled the place up. Granted, it's not very nice but it looks better than the Sea Nymph.
