All the years we've been going to Myrtle Beach, we have never visited any lighthouses. Thought it would be nice to see up close and maybe see inside. Has anyone been to any of them and if so, were you able to tour the inside.

We have not been inside any of the local lighthouses. Be sure to check ahead to see which ones are still allowing tourists inside.

Bald Head Island has a lighthouse that we've in inside. "Old Baldy" is 110 feet high and containing 108 steps. It served as an active lighthouse until 1935 and as a radio beacon until 1958. It was used mostly to guide ships through the perilous Frying Pan Shoals.

If you have full day with nothing planned, you would probably enjoy the island as well as the lighthouse. It is accessible only by the 20 minute passenger ferry from Southport.
