I posted this on another message board and didn't get a response so I thought maybe someone here would know?

I will be coming to Myrtle Beach in Oct for the first time and I will be staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites in the south part of the city. For things that are a few miles away I don't mind driving but for things that are closer but not quite in walking distance I don't feel like having to drive everywhere. Coast RTA seems like a good alternative. I was wondering first, if it runs all year, and second has anyone ever used it - is this a safe, reliable alternative to walking?

Melissa, being kind of a control freak, I never like using public transportation, simply because I want to leave and go when I want! Since you've never been to Myrtle Beach, you will find that it is one of the easiest places to navigate, although traffic can be intense at times!! Where your hotel is located, there may not be much within walking distance, but there is an amazing amount of things to do if you are driving!! If I were you, I would just drive your own vehicle, that way you can pick and chose the areas you wish to explore! JMHO :nanner: ! Whatever you choose, I hope you hae a wonderful time!!!

I am from the DC area so I am used to doing public transportation if I want to do the whole touristy thing. I just hate to have to get in my car and then have to find a place to park just to go a dozen blocks or so. Especially since car break-ins seem to be a thing there. If there is a better way I would rather just leave my car in the garage where it is safe.

Hi, Melissa, and welcome to our little corner of Myrtle Beach.

You will find the answer to your questions here:
http://coastrta.com

Coast RTA runs all year round. The biggest complaint I have heard is that the they are always tardy. And people hate waiting, especially if it's up to 30 minutes as I've heard it may be.

Hampton Inn & Suites should have any information you need about this service.

The routes are here:

Melissa, we've never had a problem with parking or anyone trying to break into our vehicle!! That being said, it will probably happen this year since I mentioned it :???: !! Murphy's law!!!!

I agree also. There are some wonderful things you will miss by having to depend on public transportation. We too, have been going to Myrtle beach for years, and have never had any problems of any kind. You will be surprised when you find out all that is available there.

I'm from a small town where we don't even have public transportation
We usually vacation in September and have never had an issue with finding ample free parking. The traffic seems lighter in the fall months which is a plus.
Have a wonderful vacation!
