My family will be in Myrtle Beach until Wednesday. We are from Deep South Texas and spend our summer on South Padre Island there. I am looking for a place to go shelling that will provide a great chance of finding a whelk to add to my collection. I have traveled to Florida and have several sharks teeth and sand dollars and various other shells, but no whelk. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Are you looking for a particular size? I generally find a few small ones each year without putting much effort.

My shelling page does not directly address welk, but you'll find a lot of suggestions for shelling.. Hope this helps.

I am not looking for a particular size, of course bigger would be better, but at least one to add to my collection. Suggestion on places?

Away from the crowds such as th Stste Park, Pawleys Island Murrells Inlet. The best time for shelling is just after a big rain. The locations are mentioned in the link baove.

We took a shelling tour in Georgetown a few years ago, and found a couple nice whelk shells! Can't remember which tour it was though :smash[1]:
