We are looking to rent a boat possibly for 1/2 day rental.. they're are quite a few places to rent them. Does anyone know if one is better than the other. (better boats/ better scenery)
We would like to be able to look for a small island to look for shells -if that's possible ?

If you want to shell, my suggestion is go out of Georgetown on Cap’n Rods Lowcountry Tours.

This way no worry about getting stranded on a sandbar or getting stuck in shallow waters and it just may be less money than renting for a half day.

Gary...thanks ! But we are still going to rent one on our own.. We boat in the sound/ocean here in CT. so the inlet would be alot of fun to try. Now just wondering, do alot of boats get stuck on sandbars? Where does everyone go boating ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Actually, that's not a bad idea, Kirk.

I'm pounding my fists on the table and stamping my feet on the ground for a MB trip the first week of Sept. If Jan doesn't crack me over the head with a frying pan, I might just get my way !

I have qualifications for a boat rental/charter.... See everyone at Crazy Sis' ?!?

Kirk

By the time you go in Sept....I'll be wishing to be back in Myrtle Beach again !! And I would love to have a meet -up sometime next week if anyone can.. I've actually never went to a meet-up before, but it would be nice to meet members in person. Maybe even for Ice Cream somewhere's.

As far as the boat rental, is there a place in the inlet where would could actually dock at a small island to walk around?

There's not a whole lot of area in the back marsh water for boating/sightseeing/cruising.

As you approach the actual inlet, on your port side is a sandy beach area where people congregate, especially on weekends and on the starboard side is the north end of Huntington Beach State Park.

There is very large house on that property, the point as it is called, people have said it is Dolly Parton's and also Kenny Rogers name has been thrown out there, it is actually Mr Ammons, he owns Sea Mist Resort.

FYI, for a boat trip, also out of Georgetown you can take up to 6 people out on the 42' Sea Merchant, by the clock tower, it is only $125 and hour for 1 person or 6, you can take a sunset sailing cruise or during the day drop anchor at one of the islands in the Bay and do some shelling.

For 3 hours that is $375, divide that by 6 people and it comes out to $21 an hour each, that is reasonable, and if you get the discount card that groups like Habitat for Humanity and Barnabas Horse Foundation sells you get a free hour when you buy 2 bringing your fun down to $13 and hour each, heck that's almost the cost to play mini-golf.
