Patrish, I've noticed that when a URL link is posted and you click on it, the new page (link) will open overtop of the current page.

With almost all web browsers now having tabs, is there a board setting that can be changed so that the URL (link) will open a new tab? It would be nice to not leave the board and just go to a new tab.

Thanks
Don

Don, I participate on another phpBB board for photography. I have noticed what you're talking about here, and I've also noticed it there as well. My guess is that's the way the PBPbb is set up. However, I know next to nothing when it comes to talking about the database. I'm sure Melissa knows much more, and maybe she'll chime in on this post.

Until that's done - if it can be - I just copy the link, open a new tab, and paste it there. Same end effect of keeping the board open, just more motions...

I don't believe this is a current feature to phpbb forums. There is probably a mod for it, but that would have to be installed. Not sure how easy that would be (sometimes they are super simple and other times they are very complex. Depends on who wrote the mod). I will investigate it and report back my findings. :)

In the meantime if you right click a link a drop box menu will show with several options. One is to open the link in a new tab. At least this is the case for me in FireFox.

yup, right click and open in new tab is what I've been doing, but it would be nice if it can be changed.

and
some people are just very lazy.

Me, I'm just lazy and like the easy way :D

I'm not a board admin so I'm not up on their programming, but I love to google.

I found THIS and think it's what I'm looking for......if this helps.

There are many, many modifications that can be added to pbpbb boards. TapaTalk, although I'd never heard of it, seemed to be a useful addition for some people.

However, I'm not sure that clicking once to view an external post, then clicking the back button to return to the forum would be an enhancement worthy of the addition of another mod at this point. (Mods = bloat.) As Mike mentioned, it's easy to open another browser page if you want the board to remain on the screen.

It is in the settings of the php board, I have no special add-ons nor do I pay any fees to use the php and when you click on a link it opens a new window.

Gary, there is nothing in our board settings that I can see to fix the issue :dontknow: . I've looked several times, maybe Patrish or Melissa can find it. Still don't see why clicking a mouse twice is so demanding though :smash[1]:

Gary, if it is working for you (from this board) maybe it has something to do with which browser people are using. (?)

Melissa told me it would require an additional Mod, and thanks to Melissa, we are running the latest phpBB edition. This version doesn't seem to work automatically that way, at least not with my Firefox browser and Mac OS X.

Another workaround.... holding the CTRL key down while clicking the link opens a new window.
