Eating Our Way Through the Alphabet
in Myrtle Beach, SC

Two local couples, both Myrtle Beach locals, started a project on 9/13/07. Our goal was to visit a local restaurant, preferably one that was new to us, and eat our way from A to Z! We didn't set a time limit, and we ate together at other restaurants along the way. The project was completed 8/20/10. And we're doing it all over again!

Here's a short synopsis, with price ranges from $ to $$$ Reviews by GARY.

Gulf Stream has the absolutly best location for cocktails, appetizers and sunsets. Their biggest problem is the menu doesn't change. Salads used to be included but now are extra.

Tonight we dinedâ. We didn't eat, we dined. The food was exquisite and the service was terrific. All entrees are served with a white bean appetizer, salad and an angel hair pasta with marinara sauce....then came the dinner. We had chicken/veal marsala, veal/eggplant parmigiano and chicken Umberto with artichoke hearts and black olives. Despite all of this, all but one finished their meals.

Vienna's Cafe (Murrells Inlet)
1/12/10
If you enjoy pre-made, iceburg salads and over-cooked pasta, you'll love Vienna's Pizzeria. The service was barely adequate. We had to ask for our bread. The entrees were delivered while we were still "enjoying" our salads. This restaurant didn't make the worst of our alpha restaurants, but was close to it. Our entrees included Lasagna, Eggplant Parm and Linquini with Vegetables.

Waterscapes

Restaurant is located in the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. Fairly typical for a hotel restaurant. We ordered Mahi Mahi fish tacos, blackened Talapia and a combo plate of lump crab, chicken and cheese quesadillas. All meals were good and flavorful. Presentation was nice. Setting was enjoyable, should be especially so when outdoor seating is available.

Yamato

Typical Hibachi style restaurant. Fast service where all the food tastes the same. The "chefs" seem all go to the same school to learn how to chop, burn and and toss food.

Zaxby's (On the Beach)
8/31/10
OK - this was the best ever. Zaxby's "ON THE BEACH". Good food, good service, GOOD FRIENDS !! We all had a Zaxby's salad - 2 Asian, 1 Caeser and 1 Blue. Flavors were all very good. Zaxby's plated the salads in plastic containers which were perfect for the beach. They provided cutlery and napkins. Sitting on the beach with good friends and bottles of wine made for a perfect evening and a perfect end to our Alphabet Tour. Time to start all over again!
