An estimated 15,000 Shriners visited the Grand Strand this past weekend for the 39th annual South Atlantic Shrine Association Fall Festival. The group is comprised of seven states from Georgia to West Virginia and Tennessee.

The parade began at 10 am with those participating getting line beginning at 9 a.m. The parade proceeded from 29th Ave. South to 12th Ave. South.

The Shriners are known for their parades, fez hats and tiny cars, but they have a very a serious mission - raising money for their 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children®.

“The main purpose is to promote Shriners International and to induct new members,” said Gus O’Shields with the Omar Shriners. “We want to generate public awareness of our mission to improve the lives of children through our 22 hospitals.”
